Preserving Our History

Developing and sharing archival collections at the Chicago Public Library is at the heart of the Chicago Public Library Foundation's mission. Through generous private donations, the Foundation assists the Library in acquiring, cataloging, preserving, digitizing and exhibiting collections of artifacts, books and memorabilia related to the rich history of Chicago.

The Library's current collections that have been acquired, archived and digitized with support from the Foundation include the Civil War & American History Research Collection, Millennium Park Digital Collection, Chicago Theatre Collection and Vivian G. Harsh Research Collection of Afro-American History and Literature.
